I really loved seeing all the preparations for the many short traditional Chinese performances. The day started off cloudy and with some rain. Fortunately the sun came out and everything went ahead. So much to look at – the rich colours, varied costumes and different types of music. Not a monkey in sight though!
I guess we should wish one another much health, happiness and wealth!
We have two “Chinatowns” in Chicago – one on the south side, populated mostly with people from southern China, and one on the north side, mostly full of people from Vietnam, including ethnic Chinese.

You have Chinese New Year festivals/parties in Australia? Is there a “Chinatown” in your area, or do certain cultures just gather in city parks?
You were expecting monkeys to appear? Is that something you see regularly? Otherwise, you DO know why monkeys might be out of sight during a monkey year, right?

As there is quite a strong population of Chinese living in Sydney, Chinese New Year is celebrated in different parts of Sydney – Chinatown and in a few local areas.
